The Caley Mail

Hello from the other side……

Welcome to our new monthly blog/newsletter/ramblings of a rotund hobbit.

So 2016 is done and dusted, another year passed and what a year it’s been for all of us here at Caley Hall, however we don’t have long to reminisce because as sure as my 4 year old son is to poke me in the forehead to wake me up at 6am another one is coming.

From our perspective it has been an extremely busy year and to say we are grateful to all that have crossed our threshold would be an understatement, some even left happy I’ve been told despite some of our staffs best efforts.

We’ve seen another successful Murder Mystery evening come and go, we are always thrilled to have Barbara and the rest of the McAbra team come & host such an entertaining annual event and the clues keep getting harder and the murders more creative although I would admit that the ease with which they come up with their scenarios does concern me on occasion but I can only assume that as long as we are paying them we’ll be safe.

School holidays were as chaotic as ever with the usual combination of energetic children, exhausted parents and older guests who somehow managed to forget that it was summer holidays and have already put big red crosses through this year’s calendar to avoid making the same mistake again.

As normal we were joined throughout the year regularly by the birdwatching fraternity making the most of the incredible sanctuary’s a stone’s throw away from us. I was also educated this year in the terminology involved and will proceed with caution when differentiating between birdwatchers & Twitchers!! The rivalry is more intense than I had ever imagined.

As November rolled up and the Christmas Decorations came out it was the turn of the coaches to grace the ever revolving doors of Caley Hall, a time when our housekeepers have to turnover 40 rooms in 3 hours and somehow manage it every time. It is not yet confirmed but I believe witchcraft is involved somewhere. (It’s the nose warts that give it away). The Thursford Christmas spectacular celebrated 40 years this year which is something we shared in common which I am positive they were just as aware of.

Finally we saw the year out in style with The Retro Pack, a group of musicians so talented that we have already booked them for the third consecutive year. There was drinking, dancing, drinking, dining, drinking and jazz, all the ingredients of a top night. Look out for details for this year; you really do not want to miss out.
