The Caley Mail
Finally, Spring has sprung. Lambs are about to start popping out providing weekend days out for families & rabbits, well, enough said about them..
As April arrives the season starts to take off. Hopefully the warmer weather hits bringing all the lovely holiday makers out to come and visit our wonderful town.
Easter weekend will soon be upon us & the Easter bunny will jump into action and bring his normal supply of sickness inducing chocolatey goodness. Easter eggs have always been a source of amusement in my household, whether it be my Great Auntie sitting on hers and ruining her Sunday frock or my Dad & brother finally getting fed up of me whinging about having to wait until after lunch to start eating them and pinning me down to force feed me until my Mom came in and told them off. These things only happened after Easter Sunday however, the eggs went on sale then & mother was thrifty when it came to saving a pound or two.
Now that I have my own children I can create my own Easter themed enjoyment, last year’s 4 hour egg hunt went down a storm. "FOUR hours!!??" I hear you say, why so long? In fairness I only hid the eggs in the last 20 minutes of this; I had a nap for the first part.
Of course I’m joking but now that I’ve thought of it…..
As already mentioned, Easter summons the beginning of the holiday season which will reach its pinnacle in August and slowly wind down in October. As our lovely guests come and go our own Nanny Ogg and her housekeeping team will be whizzing around on their broomsticks cleaning all the rooms as quickly - and spotlessly - as can be. Our chefs will once again start feeling the heat and start taking it in turns to hop in the freezer between tickets and a number of the restaurant staff will sadly be heading into their last few months with us before starting their new journeys in various universities around the country.
Easter also used to mean baking hot cross buns in school so fingers crossed that tradition is still going strong and my little ones bring me home something that passes as edible.
Locally we have Burnham Market horse trials running from the 13th-15th April, numerous special Easter events happening over the weekend and lots of entertaining shows down at the Princess Theatre.
Watch out for our new competition starting this month. "Where’s WOllie” will be our new "Guess the room” contest which will see how well you all know Caley Hall Hotel.
